Words from a sponsor

After trekking in Nepal in 2006 I wanted to support the country’s remarkable but incredibly poor people. When I got back to the UK I found out about The Esther Benjamins Trust (EBT) - a small charity doing big things in Nepal!

I became a child sponsor and received regular updates on Anu and her life in Nepal, her interests and her development. It was a joy to see her grow up into a confident young lady with the help of EBT.

I returned to Nepal to volunteer with EBT and witnessed first-hand how Anu and all the children are looked after in the refuge; how they are encouraged to study or take on activities; and how hard EBT works to develop opportunities for these children to be self-sufficient in the future. Very importantly, there was a lot of fun, laughter and love in the refuge.

Then last year there was some excellent news - Anu returned to her home community to live. I didn't have any concerns about this because one of the many great things about EBT is the contact, wherever possible, field staff maintain with the families of children in their care. I knew it was the right decision for Anu.

As Anu left the refuge for the next phase of her life, I asked if there was another child I could sponsor - I was so confident in the work of The Esther Benjamins Trust.

So would you please consider, even in these tough times at home, whether you could manage £20 a month? I can promise you it WILL make a huge difference to the life of a Nepalese child – because I've seen it for myself!

What You Can Do
Sponsor a child - Change a Nepali child's life for good.

Child sponsorship underpins the care we offer through our refuge in Nepal to at-risk children who cannot safely be reunited with their families.

When you join our  team of sponsors, you help to feed, clothe, educate and support all of our children, not just one child - that would unfairly exclude those without sponsors. Your 'child' is your link to daily life at the refuge.

Can you commit to £20 per month and become a child sponsor today? You will be playing a direct role in our work offering hope to Nepal's forgotten children.

Where does your donation go?

With us, it's simple - 100% of your donation goes to a restricted fund for the care of children in our refuges. It's something we think really makes our child sponsorship scheme stand out.

The gift aid we can claim on all donations we receive is used for our limited, but necessary, Nepal and UK expenses. It means we are able to pass on your entire gift.

What do I do next?

Please email info@ebtrust.org.uk or call the London office on 020 7600 5654 to learn more and to give us a helping hand by becoming a child sponsor.

College Sponsorship
Some of our older students are now preparing to embark on higher education, having passed their School Leavers' Certificate (SLC - roughly equivalent to the UK's GCSEs). This in itself demonstrates the remarkable progress they have made.

We are currently developing a College Sponsorship programme which will enable these students to pursue A-Levels or similar for a further two years beyond normal school. Please contact us if you are interested in this aspect of sponsorship - by email at info@ebtrust.org.uk.

Please note that we do not permit direct correspondence between children and sponsors; this is to avoid some children feeling neglected if they receive no letters. Also, for the same reason, any presents that sponsors may wish to send to their child should be suitable for use by all of the refuge children. (It is worth remembering that toys and presents can be purchased by our staff locally in Nepal on your behalf, saving transportation costs while stimulating the local economy.)
