Events and Challenges

Runs and Marathons 2011

The Adidas Half Marathon Silverstone

The first major event of 2011 is the Adidas Half Marathon which will be held at Silverstone on the 6th March. You can apply to run with Founder/Director Philip Holmes through the open ballot which is found here:

https://www.adidashalfmarathon.com/onlinentry/

The entry fee is £15 but alternatively runners may apply for a one of the Trust’s 15 guaranteed free places in return for a pledge to raise a minimum of £250 through sponsorship. For this contact Philip directly on philip.holmes@ebtrust.org.uk.

Marathon de Paris

Philip will also be running this as part of his “Tale of Two Marathons” challenge for 2011, i.e. running both the Paris and London Marathons within a week of one another.

The Paris Marathon takes place on the 10th April 2011and the registration process opens on 15th September 2010. The event is not oversubscribed so the charity has no guaranteed places. The website's online entry facility is here.

The Virgin London Marathon

This will take place on the 17th April and the ballot is now closed for this grossly-oversubscribed event. The Trust has 7 guaranteed places available to runners pledging to raise a minimum of £2,000 in sponsorship.

Preference in allocation will be given to existing Trust supporters and to those who pledge to run both London and Paris, for which the combined sponsorship target is £3,500.

For more information on London and Paris contact Philip on the above address. The London Marathon website is at www.virginlondonmarathon.com.

Maya's Run - the BUPA 10,000

The BUPA 10km event in London will be on the 30th May. Maya Lama whom the Trust released from an Indian circus in July 2004 will be running alongside Philip (his third successive annual BUPA 10,000 run in London).

Maya now lives at the Trust’s Kathmandu refuge and, although just turned 16, has become a talented distance runner in Nepal. The Trust has 40 guaranteed places in the event with a minimum sponsorship of £250 (contact Philip for information on this) but runners can also apply through the ballot where the entry fee is £25: www.london10000.co.uk/entry-form

You can sponsor Maya here:

Other planned running events in 2011:

The Great North Run

This is held in Newcastle in September and with 52,000 places is the UK’s largest half marathon. It is always over-subscribed. The Trust has applied for guaranteed places for next year’s event.

More information will follow - but please contact Philip if you are interested. The Great North Run website is at:

And for anyone looking to take on one of the hardest running challenges ever:

Racing The Planet, Nepal 2011

This one-off extreme running event will be on the 20th November 2011 and held at Pokhara at the foot of the Himalayas.

RacingThePlanet is a unique category of rough country footraces that take place over seven days and some 250km in remote and culturally-rich locations around the world.

Competitors must carry all their own equipment and food, are only provided with water and a place in a tent each day but are supported by professional medical and operations teams.

RacingThePlanet is international; the events typically involve competitors from over 20 different countries who are able to mingle around the campfires and in their geographically mixed tents. The registration fee is $3,500.

Please speak with Philip for further details.
