In Nepal? Visit the Himalayan Mosaics art workshop in Kathmandu

Our Godawari Tour visits the Himalayan Mosaics art workshop in Godawari. Himalayan Mosaics was set up as a socially-responsible company to employ former circus girls we rescued from India. All profit generated is directed back into The Esther Benjamins Trust's project work in Nepal.

Older circus returnees who do not want to or who cannot return to school pose a huge rehabilitation challenge. They are not welcome with their families (especially if they have been sexually abused) and frequently have major psychological problems after years of abuse.

Through our art workshops, we have addressed the issue and taught them how to make mosaics as a means of earning a living using locally-available materials in Nepal. The girls have quickly developed dexterity and an eye for detail. Mosaic subjects range from wildlife to Nepali culture, children’s names to company logos or bespoke commissions.

The young women at Himalayan Mosaics are now entirely self-supporting through the sale of mosaics on the domestic and international markets. Mosaics are available to purchase or commission on site.

During the tour you will visit the workshops, learn more about the Trust’s research work into local brick kiln labour conditions that impact on young children, enjoy a leisurely lunch and finally take in a short visit to our local children’s refuge.
